Ohiya

Ohiya is third highest railway station of Sri Lanka. Ohiya is very cool spot. Ohiya railway station is high 1774m above sea level. Ohiya is very famous why it is on the way to horton plains. Ohiya railway station is at between Idalgashinna and Pattipola railway stations. Most of times of the year temperature of Ohiya is below 10°C.

Udaweriya tea estate and another entrance to Ohiya from kalupahana also at 4km above from Ohiya. Main entrance to Udaweriya estate also at along Ohiya. Ohiya is a not a town or junction. It has few boutiques, post office, guest house, railway station, temple, school and about 80 houses.

In few decays before Ohiya is very important for railway because main wood supplying center for streaming engines is Ohiya. Ruins of lifting woods we can be seen on the vilage.

There is a deep and long railway bridge at close to Ohiya station. Space which has maximum number of railway tunnels of Sri Lanka is Ohiya and Idalgashinna. That is 13 tunnels. In pattipola side there is 4 tunnels which include special tunnel called 'Tunnel 18". There is a 11.5 km to Horton plains from Ohiya. It's very beautiful narrowed way. In evening mist covered all things of the Ohiya place.

Where is Ohiya

Ohiya Railway station is at Betwwen Pattipola and Idalgashinna. No travelling method to Pattipola or Idalgashinna exept train. There is a way to Ohiya from Welimada via Boralanda. One bus is working that way. The bus starts 6:30AM from Ohiya --> 7:15AM Welimada, 8:45 Ohiya --> 3:45 Welimada. Another difficult way to Ohiya via Udaweriya Estate from Kalupahana (Colombo - Badulla Road)
